Selenite Crescent Moon Charging Plate - Engraved Gypsum, 3.25 In
Selenite takes its name from the ancient Greek word for the Moon, so a crescent cut from it makes a fitting place to rest your stones.
Each moon is hand cut, polished and engraved, and its smooth surface picks up soft light from a nearby window. Many people use a selenite charging plate as a small tray for tumbled stones, rings or a pendant at the end of the day, and it also works as a base for wire wrapping and craft projects. It is an easy gift for a friend who keeps crystals on a nightstand or altar.
About Selenite
Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum, hydrous calcium sulfate. Despite the similar name, it contains no selenium. Much of the silky, fibrous gypsum sold as selenite is technically the variety called satin spar. As selenite, gypsum also forms some of the largest crystals in nature, up to about 12 meters long in the Naica Mine in Mexico.
Stone Meaning: Selenite is traditionally associated with clarity and peace.
Good to Know
- Selenite sits at 2 on the Mohs scale, soft enough to scratch with a fingernail, so let other stones rest on it rather than rubbing against it.
- Fine lines and small natural marks are normal in hand cut selenite and are part of the stone, not damage.
